abstract A light source illumination unit 30 which has a plurality of operation modes including at least: a normal power mode in which an operation is carried out using a first power consumption amount; and a low power mode in which the operation is carried out using a second power consumption amount that is less than the first power consumption amount. A control section 70 selects an operation mode from among the plurality of operation modes in accordance with the current usage status and controls the light source illumination unit 30 in conformity with the selected operation mode.
