A nanocomposite comprising a copolymer of styrene and methyl methacrylate and reduced graphene oxide/silver nanoparticles (PS-PMMA/RGO/AgNPs) was prepared via in situ bulk polymerization method. Two different preparation techniques were used. In a first approach, a mixture of graphene oxide (GO), styrene (S) and methyl methacrylate (MMA) monomers were polymerized using a bulk polymerization method with a free radical initiator. After the addition of silver nitrate (AgNO 3 ), the product was reduced via microwave irradiation (MWI) in the presence of hydrazine hydrate (HH), to obtain R-(GO-(PS-PMMA))/AgNPs nanocomposite. Materials with antimicrobial properties, comprising the nanocomposite, were further obtained and used for medical devices or medical related implants. In a second approach, a nanocomposite was prepared without MWI. |
