A particulate material is provided consisting of a plurality of porous particles comprising a mixture of silicon and germanium, wherein the mole fraction of germanium is from 0.01 to 50%, wherein the porous particles have a D 50 particle diameter in the range of from 500 nm to 25 µm, and wherein the porous particles have an intra-particle porosity in the range of from 30 to 90%. Also provided are electrodes and electrode compositions comprising the particulate material, a rechargeable metal-ion battery comprising the particulate material, and a process for the preparation of the particulate material. |
