Liquid-crystal display element |
abstract |
This invention provides a liquid-crystal display element comprising the following: a first transparent insulating substrate and a second transparent insulating substrate that are laid out so as to face each other; and a transparent-conductive-material-comprising first common electrode on the first substrate and a transparent-conductive-material-comprising second common electrode and transparent-conductive-material-comprising pixel electrodes on the second substrate that sandwich a liquid-crystal-composition-containing liquid-crystal layer between the first substrate and the second substrate. The distances (R) between the pixel electrodes and the common electrodes are less than the distance (G) between the first substrate and the second substrate so that the pixel electrodes and the common electrodes form fringe fields therebetween. The common electrodes are laid out closer to the first substrate than the pixel electrodes over nearly the entire surface of the first substrate. The liquid-crystal composition exhibits negative dielectric anisotropy and contains one or more compounds selected from the group of compounds that can be represented by general formula (i), general formula (ii), and general formula (iii).n(i)n(ii)n(iii) |
