The invention relates to a gas sensor (10, 20, 30, 40, 50) for detecting the total content of nitrogen oxides in a gas mixture, comprising - an oxygen ion conductor (11) - at least two electrodes (12, 13, 21) arranged on the oxygen ion conductor, wherein - the gas sensor (10, 20, 30, 40, 50) is designed such that both electrodes (12, 31, 21) are in contact with the gas mixture during operation thereof. The gas sensor (10, 20, 30, 40, 50) is designed such that, during operation of the gas sensor at a temperature of at least 300C, the content of NO x in the gas mixture can be reliably and easily measured, independently of the concentration of NO and NO 2 , respectively. |
