abstract |
Provided is a liquid crystal display device that has improved color reproduction properties and brightness. The liquid crystal display device comprises: a backlight that emits non-polarized blue light; a quantum rod layer that is provided to the emission side of the backlight and that uses a plurality of quantum rods to convert one part of the blue light into linearly polarized red light and linearly polarized green light; a reflective polarizing layer that is provided to the side on which the linearly polarized red light and the linearly polarized green light of the quantum rod layer are emitted and that converts non-polarized blue light that has passed through the quantum rod layer into linearly polarized light; and a liquid crystal panel that is arranged on the side of the reflective polarizing layer on which the linearly polarized blue light is emitted. The major axis direction of the quantum rods of the quantum rod layer and the polarization direction of the linearly polarized blue light that is emitted from the reflective polarizing layer are parallel. |
