abstract | Provided is an ESD protection device having satisfactory discharge characteristics, wherein the occurrence of a crack and the peeling of a discharge electrode, which are caused by gas generation in a production process, are suppressed. The static discharge protection device comprises: a ceramic base material; first and second external electrodes provided on the ceramic base material external surface; a hollow portion provided inside the ceramic base material; a first discharge electrode, whereof a first end portion is electrically connected to the first external electrode, and whereof a second end portion is disposed inside the hollow portion; a second discharge electrode, whereof a first end portion is electrically connected to the second external electrode, and whereof a second end portion is disposed inside the hollow portion while being spaced from the first discharge electrode; and a discharge auxiliary electrode containing silicon carbide, disposed between the second end portion of the first discharge electrode and the second end portion of the second discharge electrode. The alkaline metal element content in the ceramic base material is 3% by weight or less. |
