titleOfInvention Novel process for manufacturing flame retardant yarns
abstract The present invention relates to a process for manufacturing a yarn (I) consisting of a multifilament core (1) coated with a polymeric sheath. The sheath is produced by deposition, on the multifilament core (1), of a miscible mixture of molten polymers comprising: • at least one flame retarding agent (4), and • at least two polymers that do not establish, in the melt state, permanent chemical bonds with one another, with one of the two polymers, known as the co-flame retarding polymer, which has on the one hand a glass transition temperature significantly lower than that of the other polymer, known as the base polymer, and on the other hand a melting point also significantly lower than that of the base polymer.
