abstract | The purpose of the present invention is: to provide a negative electrode material with which it is possible to obtain a non-aqueous secondary battery that has a sufficiently low irreversible charge/discharge capacity during initial cycle, has excellent low-temperature input/output characteristics, and generates minimal gas during initial cycle and during high-temperature storage; and to thus provide a high-performance non-aqueous secondary battery. This carbon material (C) for non-aqueous secondary battery negative electrodes is a carbon material for non-aqueous secondary battery negative electrodes that comprises a carbon material (A) capable of occluding and releasing lithium ions, and an organic compound (B), wherein the mesopore surface area ratio (SAa/SAb) expressed by the following expression (1) is 0.67 or greater. Expression (1): SAa/SAb = the surface area of mesopores from 2 nm to less than 4 nm found by the nitrogen adsorption method/the surface area of mesopores from 4 nm to 35 nm inclusive found by the nitrogen adsorption method. |
