abstract A method for the diagnosis of colorectal cancer by determining the level of fatty acids present in a biological fluid sample (10), characterised by: - adding a reference standard (14) to the biological fluid sample (10) to be analyzed, - selecting the fatty acids of interest from the thus additivated biological fluid sample, using an extractive mixture (34) comprising at least one solvent, - derivatizing said sample using at least one chemical reagent, - injecting into the gas chromatograph (24) an aliquot of the extracted fatty acids of interest, - implementing a gas chromatography separation, - subjecting the molecular species separated by the gas chromatograph (24) to ionization, and analyzing the signals obtained in this manner by a detector, - processing the data obtained by said detector, to obtain values representative of the level of said fatty acids of interest within said biological fluid sample (10), and characterised in that said fatty acids of interest comprise at least one from hexanoic acid, octanoic acid, decanoic acid and dodecanoic acid.
