abstract |
The present application relates to a process for synthesizing neopentyl glycol starting with isobutyraldehyde and formaldehyde which are reacted in the presence of an alkaline catalyst, and the highly volatile components are subsequently separated until a water content of less than 5% is achieved. The bottoms product of the distillation is subsequently hydrogenated. |
