Disclosed is an additive used in a polymer, comprising: A: a phosphinate containing two substituent groups and having the structural formula (I), wherein R1 and R2 are the same or different, being represented as H, and C1-C6 alkyl or C6-C18 aryl; M is Mg, Ca, Al, Zn, or Fe; m is 2-3; B: chloride, the content of chlorine being 50-900 ppm by weight of the total additive. The additive can be obtained by adding the chloride in the process of preparing the phosphinate containing two substituent groups, or to the end product, with a simple process and low production costs. The prepared phosphinate with a trace amount of chlorine and containing two substituent groups is applied to a flame retardant polymer to obtain a polymer with excellent whiteness and good flame retardant property. |
