Provided are: an antioxidant for a liquid crystal composition, said antioxidant containing 3% or more of one or more liquid crystal compounds having positive dielectric anisotropy of an absolute value of four or more; a liquid crystal composition which includes said antioxidant; and a liquid crystal display element which uses said liquid crystal composition. The antioxidant for a liquid crystal composition is represented by general formula (II-1) (in the formula, M y is represented by a hydrocarbon having 1-25 carbon atoms, a 1,4-phenylene group, or a trans-1,4-cyclohexylene group, X y represents an alkylene group having 1-15 carbon atoms, -OCH 2 -, -CH 2 O-, -COO-, -OCO-, -CF 2 O-, -OCF 2 -, -CF 2 CF 2 -, -CH=CH-COO-, -CH=CH-OCO-, -COO-CH=CH-, -OCO-CH=CH-, -CH=CH-, -C≡C-, a single bond, a 1,4-phenylene group, or a trans-1,4-cyclohexylene group, and l represents an integer from 2-6). |
