Provided are a liquid crystal display element which is not susceptible to the occurrence of drip marks during manufacture, with no degradation of the various characteristics of liquid crystal display elements, such as the dielectric constant anisotropy, the viscosity, the nematic phase upper limit temperature, and the rotary viscosity (γ 1 ), or the burn-in characteristics of the liquid crystal display element; and a manufacturing method thereof. This liquid crystal display element (10) is characterized by having a liquid crystal composition layer (13) sandwiched by a first substrate (11) and a second substrate (12), and perpendicularly-oriented films (16, 17) containing a polymer of a polymerizable compound having monofunctional reactive groups and a polymerizable compound having polyfunctional reactive groups. |
