Provided is a mechanoluminescent material capable of emitting near-infrared light. The mechanoluminescent material comprises an aluminate co-doped with Eu 2+ , Cr 3+ , and an ion or ions of at least one rare-earth metal element selected from Sc, Y, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Pm, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, and Lu. The mechanoluminescent material may has: a feature wherein the aluminate is represented by the general formula MAl 2 O 4 (wherein M is any of Mg, Ca, Sr, and Ba); and a feature wherein the Eu 2+ , Cr 3+ , and ion or ions of the rare-earth metal element(s) have been added together each in such a concentration that 0.25 to 10% of the M in the aluminate is replaced therewith. |
