Provided is a composite liquid crystal composition which contains a liquid crystal compound and a polymerizable compound and has a sufficiently high ∆n. This composite liquid crystal composition also has high photostability, and is capable of constituting a liquid crystal device that can be driven at a low voltage.nA composite liquid crystal composition which contains, as liquid crystal compounds, a compound having a biphenyl skeleton and two or more compounds represented by formula (I-a). The content of the compound having a biphenyl skeleton is 20% by mass or less of the liquid crystal compounds, and the content of the compounds represented by formula (I-a), wherein C 1 is a 1,4-cyclohexylene group and n1 is not 0, is 45% by mass or more of the liquid crystal compounds. This composite liquid crystal composition contains, as polymerizable compounds, a compound represented by formula (II-b) and one or more compounds that are selected from among compounds represented by (II-a1) or (II-a2). The total content of the liquid crystal compounds is 65-85% by mass, and the total content of the polymerizable compounds is 15-35% by mass. |
