abstract The purpose of the present invention is to provide a production method and a production device for an organic EL element, causing little damage in the gas barrier layer and little deterioration in light-emitting capability even under an environment of high temperature and high humidity.nThis organic EL element production method is a production method wherein the same film substrate is used to form a plurality of organic EL elements provided with an organic functional layer containing a light-emitting layer and one pair of electrodes sandwiching the organic functional layer, and the film substrate is cut to separate each of the organic EL elements, characterized in that the method comprises (a) a step of forming a first gas barrier layer on the film substrate, and form the organic functional layer and the one pair of electrodes for the plurality of organic EL elements on the first gas barrier layer, (b) a step of forming a separation groove along the border line of each organic EL element on a second side facing away from a first side where the first gas barrier layer of the film substrate has been formed, and (c) a step of cutting along the separation groove the film substrate whereon the first gas barrier layer has been formed to separate and obtain the plurality of organic EL elements.
