abstract The present invention provides 1,4-butanediol (abbreviated hereinafter as BG) having little deterioration of quality even when stored in an oxygen-containing atmosphere, the BG making it possible to obtain polyester having excellent color tone. This BG contains 1 wt ppm or more of 2-methyl-1,3-propanediol and includes a cyclic acetal compound of 1 to 50 wt ppm.
