Disclosed is a mercury-removing agent and a preparation method therefor. The mercury-removing agent comprises 40-90wt% of a carrier, 1-40wt% of an active component and 0-30wt% of a modifying agent, wherein the modifying agent is a halogen or halide, and the active component is a mixture of oxides of at least two oxidizing metals. The preparation method comprises: placing the carrier into one or more soluble oxidizing metal salt solutions, soaking, drying and calcining; and again placing same into one or more than two soluble metal salt solutions apart from the above-mentioned soluble metal salts, soaking, drying and calcining to obtain the mercury-removing agent. The mercury-removing agent of the present invention needs no vulcanization, uses the oxidizing metal oxides as the active component and the halogen or halide as the modifying agent, has the beneficial effects of a mercury capacity of greater than 10wt% and a mercury-removing efficiency of above 99.9%, and can be widely applied to the removal process of mercury metal from smoke, synthetic gas, natural gas and a mercury-containing gas source in a liquid substance. |
