abstract The present invention relates to a method for the production of hybrid micro- or nanoparticles with raspberry-shaped or core/shell-shaped morphology, the method including: (a) providing an aqueous dispersion of core micro- or nanoparticles of a first material selected from organic polymers and inorganic materials, wherein the micro- or nanoparticles are stabilized and bear a surface charge; (b) adding a stabilized miniemulsion of droplets of one or more second polymer-forming monomers in water to form structured droplet-particle hybrids in a liquid-solid assembly process, wherein said droplets bear a surface charge that is opposite to the charge of the core micro- or nanoparticles of a first polymer; and (c) polymerizing the polymer film-forming monomers to obtain a stable dispersion of raspberry-shaped or core/shell-shaped hybrid micro- or nanoparticles. Also encompassed are the thus produced hybrid particles, methods of forming films using these hybrid particles and the thus obtained composite films and their use.
