The present invention provides a liquid crystal display element of FFS mode, which uses a liquid crystal composition that contains at least one compound that is selected from the group of compounds represented by general formula (I) and at least one compound that is selected from the group of compounds represented by general formula (II), said liquid crystal display element serving as a liquid crystal display element that uses a liquid crystal composition having a negative dielectric anisotropy and enabling a liquid crystal display element of FFS mode to have excellent display characteristics without deteriorating the characteristics of a liquid crystal display element such as dielectric anisotropy, viscosity, upper limit temperature of the nematic phase, nematic phase stability at low temperatures and γ1 and image burn-in characteristics of the display element. |
