The problem to be resolved by the present invention is to provide a liquid crystal composition suitable for a liquid crystal display element that achieves a stable spray amount of liquid crystal material in the ODF process that does not easily cause drip marks during manufacturing, and without deterioration of display element burning properties and other various properties of a liquid crystal display element such as dielectric anisotropy, viscosity, upper limit temperature of the nematic phase, nematic phase stability at low temperature, γ1, and the like, and to provide a liquid crystal display element that uses this liquid crystal composition. The present invention provides a liquid crystal composition with negative dielectric anisotropy that contains at least one type of compound expressed by general formula (I), that contains at least one type of compound expressed by general formula (II), and that contains the compound expressed by formula (IIIb-1). Furthermore, in addition, a liquid crystal display element that uses this liquid crystal composition is provided. |
