abstract | A process of dewatering a suspension comprising particulate solids dispersed in an aqueous liquid is provided. The particulate solids comprise clay and mineral particles of size below 50 μm. The process comprises the steps of (a) subjecting the suspension to a kinetic energy stage to produce a modified suspension; (b) addition of at least one concentrated solution of at least one polymer having a concentration of polymer of above 0.3% by weight and at least one dilute solution of at least one polymer having a concentration of polymer of below 0.3% by weight, to the suspension before, during or after step (a); (c) dewatering the treated suspension obtained after having conducted steps (a) and (b), in which the kinetic energy stage is a shearing stage and/or application of ultrasonic energy to the suspension. |
