titleOfInvention Device for sequential examination of a measurement object by means of mpi and mri methods
abstract The invention relates to a device for alternating examination of a measurement object (170) by means of MPI and MRI with two magnetic field-generating elements. A homogeneous magnetic field is generated in a first examination volume (162) for the MRI operation, and a spatially strongly varying magnetic field profile, the field vectors of which are different in respect of direction and/or magnitude at all spatial points and comprise the field magnitude zero, is generated in a second examination volume (161) for the MPI operation. The device includes a resistive drive field coil system (140) and a resistive MRI gradient coil system (130). The device is characterized in that it comprises a main magnet coil system with two coaxial partial coil systems (100a1, 100a2; 100b2, 100b1) arranged mirror-symmetrically relative to a central plane running perpendicularly to the z-axis through the first examination volume (162), in that the examination volumes are superimposed, in that a polarity reversal device (190) for reversing the polarity of the current through a partial coil system is provided and in that the main magnet coil system generates a homogeneous magnetic field of at least the sixth order in the first examination volume when the partial coil systems have identical polarity, and a spatially strongly varying magnetic field profile in the second examination volume when the polarities are opposite. Thereby repositioning of the measurement object is simplified or can even be omitted.
