titleOfInvention | Electrochemical route to prepare hydrocarbyl-functional silicon compounds |
abstract | Electrolysis of a solution including a hydrocarbon species, a tetrahalosilane, an electrolyte, and a solvent, may be used to produce an electrolysis product. The electrolysis product includes a hydrocarbyl-functional silicon compound. The hydrocarbyl-functional silicon compound may be a hydrocarbylsilane of formula R n SiX (4-n) > where each R is independently a monovalent hydrocarbon group, each X is independently a halogen atom, and subscript n is an integer from 1 to 4, or a silahydrocarbylene of formula X d H e R f Si-R 1 -SiX g H h R i , where subscript d is 0, 1, 2, or 3; subscript e is 0, 1, or 2; subscript f is 0, 1, or 2; with the proviso that a quantity (d + e + f) = 3; subscript g is 1, 2, or 3; subscript h is 0, 1, or 2; subscript i is 0, 1, or 2; with the proviso that a quantity (g + h + i) = 3; each X is independently a halogen atom; each R is independently a monovalent hydrocarbon group; and R 1 is a divalent hydrocarbon group. |
