abstract The present invention relates to a nematic liquid crystal composition useful as a liquid crystal display material and having a positive dielectric constant anisotropy (Δε), and a liquid crystal display element using the same. The liquid crystal composition according to the present invention has a large absolute value for dielectric constant anisotropy and low viscosity, and the liquid crystal display element using the same has excellent display quality with high contrast and fast responsiveness, but without burn-in or other display defects. The liquid crystal display element using the liquid crystal composition according to the present invention is useful for achieving fast responsiveness while also suppressing display defects, is particularly useful as a liquid crystal display element for active matrix driving, and can be applied as an IPS, TN, or other type of liquid crystal display element.
