titleOfInvention System and method for remotely positioning an end effector
abstract A system (10) for remotely positioning an end effector (12) includes a sensor (34, 36, 38, 40, 42) in an input device (30) aligned with an axis (44, 46, 48) to generate a signal (50, 52, 54) reflective of an angular displacement of the sensor (34, 36, 38, 40, 42) about the axis. A processor (62) receives the signal (50, 52, 54) and exe¬ cutes a set of logic stored in a memory (64) to filter the signal (50, 52, 54), smooth the signal (50, 52, 54), and generate a control signal (56, 58, 60) to the end effector (12) that is proportional to the angular displacement of the sensor (34, 36, 38, 40, 42) about the axis (44, 46, 48). A method for remotely positioning an end effector (12) includes moving an input device (30), sensing an angular displacement of a sensor (34, 36, 38, 40, 42) from an axis (44, 46, 48), generating a signal (50, 52, 54) reflective of the angular displacement of the sensor (34, 36, 38, 40, 42) about the axis (44, 46, 48), smoothing the signal (50, 52, 54), and generating a control signal (56, 58, 60) to the end effector (12) that is proportional to the angular dis¬ placement of the sensor (34, 36, 38, 40, 42) about the axis (44, 46, 48).
