titleOfInvention Artificial sensory epithelium
abstract Provided is an artificial sensory epithelium (1) to be embedded in a cochlea (301) of a patient, including a piezoelectric film (2) and a multiplicity of micro-electrodes (3) provided on the piezoelectric film, wherein the piezoelectric film is provided along a cochlear basement membrane (306). Sound waves arriving from outside the cochlea cause a portion of the piezoelectric film corresponding to a vibrating portion of the basement membrane to vibrate, and micro-electrodes provided at the vibrating portion of the piezoelectric film, among the multiple micro-electrodes, give electric stimulation to spiral ganglion cells (311). The artificial sensory epithelium preferably includes a support (4) that can support the piezoelectric film and can be fastened in the cochlea.
