abstract |
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a fuel cell system in which the system efficiency is less affected by a fuel cell and the amount of a reaction intermediate discharged is small over a long period of time. A membrane electrode assembly of the present invention is characterized in that: the membrane electrode assembly comprises an anode, a cathode and a solid polymer electrolyte membrane in a specific arrangement; the cathode has a cathode catalyst layer and a cathode diffusion layer that is arranged on a surface of the cathode catalyst layer, said surface being on the reverse side of the solid polymer electrolyte membrane-side surface; the cathode catalyst layer contains an oxygen reduction catalyst that is composed of composite particles, each of which is configured of a catalyst metal containing palladium or an palladium alloy and a catalyst carrier containing, as constituent elements, a specific transition metal element (M1), a transition metal element (M2) other than the transition metal element (M1), carbon, nitrogen and oxygen at a specific ratio; and the cathode diffusion layer contains an oxidation catalyst and a water-repellent resin. |
