abstract A reed switch (10) is provided with a cylindrical glass tube (30), and a plurality of reed pieces (20) secured to the glass tube (30) in a state in which one end side having a connection part (22) is inserted into the glass tube (30). The reed piece (20) is manufactured by molding the connection part (22) by plastic working to one end side of a wire for a reed switch. The wire for a reed switch contains, in terms of mass%, Fe: 1%-10% and Ni: 10%-35%, with the remainder being Co and impurities, is composed of a ferrous alloy having a cubic crystal structure, and has a Curie temperature of 900°C or higher and a wire diameter of 1 mm or less. The wire is composed of a ternary alloy with a specific composition, and thereby has a high Curie temperature, low resistance, and a specific structure, resulting in excellent processability.
