The present invention pertains to a secondary battery having an electrolyte and an electrode element in which a positive electrode and a negative electrode are arranged facing each other. The secondary battery is characterized by: a negative electrode active substance including a metal capable of alloying with lithium and/or a metal oxide capable of occluding and releasing lithium ions; the electrolyte being a non-aqueous electrolyte having an electrolyte salt dissolved in a non-aqueous solvent; and the electrolyte containing a carbonyl compound indicated in formula (1). (In the formula, the two R 1 s may be the same or different, and each independently indicate a hydrogen atom, a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, an alkenyl group, an alkynyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic group, an oxyalkylene group, a substituted or unsubstituted alkoxy group, a cycloalkyloxy group, an alkenyl-oxy group, an alkynyl-oxy group, a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic oxy group, or an oxyalkylene-oxy group.) |
