abstract | Provided are: an MgB 2 -superconducting wire of magnesium diboride formed via a powder-in-tube method and exhibiting both increased performance in terms of superconductivity properties, and increased wire length; and a method for producing the same. This MgB 2 -superconducting wire comprises an MgB 2 core and a metal sheath for covering the MgB 2 core, and is characterized in that: the MgB 2 core is an MgB 2 polycrystalline substance; magnesium-silver alloy (Mg-Ag alloy) particles and alkali metal oxide particles having a greater ionization tendency than that of Mg are dispersed in the MgB 2 polycrystalline substance; the average particle diameter of the Mg-Ag alloy particles is 1μm or less; and the average particle diameter of the alkali metal oxide particles is 0.1μm or less. |
