| abstract | [Problem] To provide a rectangular cell in which an Ni-based positive electrode is used, wherein the rectangular cell is provided with a cross-sectional shape in the form of a valve such that an explosion-proof valve operates in a reliable manner, the explosion-proof valve having an exhaust area that makes it possible to maintain a sufficient gas exhaust amount. [Solution] A rectangular cell having an electrode group obtained by layering a positive electrode, which has a lithium transition metal complex oxide containing Ni as a positive electrode active material, and a negative electrode with a separator interposed therebetween, the electrode group being housed in the cell case and the opening of the cell case being sealed by a sealing plate, the rectangular cell being characterized in that: an explosion-proof valve comprising a continuous thin-walled part is formed on the cell case and/or the sealing plate; the exhaust area (S)(cm2) of the explosion-proof valve comprises a planar shape defined by the thin-walled part or a shape defined by a straight line linking both ends of the thin-walled part; and the exhaust area (S)(cm2) and the theoretical capacity (P)(Ah) of the rectangular cell satisfy relational expression (1). |
