Provided is a staining method that does not reduce fluorescent staining properties in a fluorescently immunostained sample even when an oil-based mounting medium is used. The present invention also provides a method for preventing degradation of a fluorescent label due to irradiation with excitation light and improving light resistance in a fluorescently immunostained sample obtained using the staining method. This method for detecting biological material comprises specifically detecting biological material from a pathological section, wherein the method has an immunostaining step in which a fluorescent label is used, a step for immobilizing the section, and a mounting step for mounting the section using a mounting medium containing an organic solvent not readily miscible with water. In the method for detecting biological material, the mounting medium further contains a discoloration inhibitor. |
