Provided are a liquid crystal display element, in which dropping stains do not occur easily during manufacturing without causing degradation of various characteristics for the liquid crystal display element such as dielectric anisotropy, viscosity, upper limit temperature for nematic phase, and rotational viscosity (γ 1 ) or in burn-in characteristics for the liquid crystal display element, and a method for manufacturing the same. This liquid crystal display element (10) is characterized by having a liquid crystal composition layer (13) sandwiched between a first substrate (11) and a second substrate (12) and vertical orientation films (16, 17) that contain a polymer of a polymerizable compound that has a reactive group and also by a liquid crystal composition constituting the liquid crystal composition layer (13) containing a compound represented by the general formulas (I) and (II). |
