titleOfInvention Method of treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
abstract The present invention relates to a method of promoting bronchodilation by administration of streptolysin 0 to a subject in need thereof. Preferred methods of practicing the invention comprise sublingual administration of the SLO in the form of a liquid drop. The SLO can be administered for promoting bronchodilation and preventing bronchospasm for any of a variety of conditions but is particularly useful for treatment of asthma including asthma in the absence of such conditions as COPD. The SLO is preferably administered in a liquid vehicle such as those selected from the group consisting of water, saline, albumin, or dextrose. The streptolysin 0 is preferably administered at a dosage of from 0.0032 to 50 units per day with administration of four doses of 2 units per day being particularly preferred.
