The invention relates to a composite reinforcement (R-2) which is able to directly adhere to a diene-rubber matrix, can be used in particular as a reinforcement member for a tire, and comprises: one or more reinforcing threads (20) such as a carbon-steel thread or cord; a layer of a polymer composition covering said thread, i.e. either each thread separately or a plurality of threads collectively, said layer containing at least one thermoplastic polymer, the glass transition temperature of which is positive, such as a polyamide, a poly(p-phenylene ether) (PPE), and a functionalized diene elastomer such as natural rubber or a butadiene homopolymer or copolymer having functional groups selected from among epoxide, carboxyl, anhydride or acid ester groups. The invention also relates to a method for manufacturing such a composite reinforcement, and to a finished article or semi-finished product made of rubber, in particular a tire, including such a composite reinforcement. |
