The present invention relates to chemical processes for producing ethanol employing hydrogenation catalysts. The catalysts are preferably used for converting acetic acid and ethyl acetate to ethanol. The catalyst comprises a precious metal, tin and cobalt on a modified support, wherein molar ratio of cobalt to tin is at least 11:1. |
