The present invention provides a rubber composition and a pneumatic tire using same that are capable of improving fuel economy, wet grip performance, wear resistance, and steering stability in a well-balanced manner. The present invention relates to a rubber composition in which a rubber component contains 95 mass% or more of a conjugated diene polymer for which Tg is -75° to 0°C and Mw is 1.5×10 5 to 1.5×10 6 , and 100 parts by mass of the rubber component contain: 5-65 mass% of an SBR (A) containing at least 5% and less than 15% by mass of styrene and having a vinyl bond content of 10-70 mol%; and 20-75 mass% of an SBR (B) containing at least 15% and less than 30% by mass of styrene and having a vinyl bond content of 10-70 mol%. In 100 parts by mass of the rubber component, the amount of the conjugated diene polymer with a low molecular weight, said polymer having a Tg of -75° to 0°C and a Mw of at least 1.0×10 3 and less than 1.5×10 5 , is 1-30 parts by mass, the amount of silica having 40-400 m 2 /g of N 2 SA is 10-150 parts by mass, and the tanδ peak temperature is at least -20°C. |
