abstract | The invention relates to a method of identifying the risk of an organ transplant patient developing post transplant lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD), identifying the likelihood of the patient having PTLD, or identifying a prognosis of a patient with PTLD, comprising detecting an amount of free light chains (FLC) in a sample from the patient, wherein a higher than normal amount of FLC or abnormal FLC ratio in the sample, indicates an increased risk of developing PTLD, having PTLD or having a poor prognosis for the PTLD. The invention also provides a method of monitoring the progress of PTLD in a patient, treatment of patients with increased risk of developing PTLD, or monitoring the treatment of PTLD in a patient comprising detecting an amount of FLC in a sample from the patient and comparing it to an amount of FLC from a previously taken sample from the patient. Assay kits for use in such methods are also provided. |
