abstract This invention relates to A process of preparing a catalyst for the production of polyethylene terephthalate and for the production of high molecular weight PET comprising the following steps: a) reacting boric acid and a zinc salt in a solvent comprising one or more glycols selected from the group consisting of ethylene glycol, propylene glycol and butylene glycol thereby forming a precipitate; and b) isolating the precipitate resulting from step a). In addition, the use of the said catalyst for the production of polyethylene terephthalate and for the production of high molecular weight PET.
