abstract The subject matter described herein relates to a water purification device (104) and to a method for purification of water. The water purification device (104) includes a primary disinfectant unit (116) and a secondary disinfectant unit (118). The primary disinfectant unit (116) includes at least one silver treated porous media (302) configured to inactivate a first portion of microbial contaminants present in the water. Further, a second portion of the microbial contaminants present in the water is inactivated by the secondary disinfectant unit (118) having at least one halogen releasing component (402).
