A catalyst support (1), which has cell walls (21) disposed in a lattice pattern and multiple cells (22) partitioned by the cell walls (21) and is obtained from a porous honeycomb base material (2) of 40 - 60 volume% porosity. In particular, a catalyst support (1) wherein a catalyst coating layer (3), obtained from a porous body of 50 - 63 volume% void fraction and having the ability to clean exhaust gas, is filled and supported on the surfaces of the cell walls (21) and inside pores (216) of the cell walls (21) with a filling rate of 40 volume% or more. In the immersion process of the manufacturing method, the combination of the honeycomb base material and the catalyst slurry is determined so that the cumulative frequency at the intersection of the pore distribution diagram, which represents the relationship between pore diameter and cumulative pore frequency for the honeycomb base material, with the particle size distribution diagram, which represents the relationship between particle diameter and cumulative particle frequency in the catalyst slurry, is 80% or more. |
