Provided are: a carbon material for lithium ion secondary batteries, which is capable of providing a lithium ion secondary battery that has further improved charge/discharge capacity density and charge/discharge cycle characteristics; a negative electrode mixture for lithium ion secondary batteries; a negative electrode for lithium ion secondary batteries; and a lithium ion secondary battery. A method for manufacturing such a lithium ion secondary battery comprises: a mixing step wherein a mixture is obtained by mixing a resin composition that contains a phenolic resin and silica particles; a spraying step wherein liquid droplets are formed by spraying the mixture which has been obtained in the mixing step; a first heat treatment step wherein a carbon precursor is produced by subjecting the liquid droplets, which have been obtained in the spraying step, to a first heat treatment; and a second heat treatment step wherein a carbon material that contains carbon and silicon oxide represented by SiO x (wherein 0 < X < 2) is produced by subjecting the carbon precursor, which has been obtained in the first heat treatment step, to a second heat treatment that is carried out at a higher temperature than the first heat treatment. |
