abstract Provided is a charged member being sufficiently flexible to ensure adequate nips with a photoreceptor, and with which it is possible to alleviate an occurrence of a compression set. The charged member comprises a support body and an elastic layer. The elastic layer has a surface MD-1 hardness of 55-85° and the universal hardness of the surface of the elastic layer at a pressure depth of 5μm is 2.0-20.0N/mm 2 .
