The present invention relates to an isolated nucleotide sequence and corresponding polypeptide derived from the isonitrile-metabolising Arthrobacter strain deposited under NCIMB 41855. Said isolated polypeptide acts as an isonitrile hydratase and the invention extends to a process for producing an N-substituted formamide or carboxylic acid using said isolated polypeptide to metabolise isonitriles or nitriles to form corresponding amides or carboxylic acids. |
