abstract The present invention is directed to methods for treating metabolic disorders, such as obesity, by administering, to a person in need thereof, innovative pharmaceutical compounds that correct, reverse, or neutralize the biochemical and/or physiological abnormalities responsible for the characteristic manifestations of the disease. In one embodiment, the present invention provides for compositions and methods for stimulating the glucose-responsive neurons that also respond to thermal stimulation via increased body temperature. In one embodiment, the present invention provides for compositions and methods for chemically stimulating neurons in the VMN to release neurotransmitter that is taken up by contiguous structures e.g., the lateral hypothalamic GABA-A receptors and arcuate nuclei A, B & C receptors, etc.
