Provided are metal oxide particles, each of which contains titanium oxide coated with silicon dioxide-tin(IV) oxide complex oxide and has a titanium oxide-containing core particle (A) and a coating layer that is formed of silicon dioxide-tin(IV) oxide complex oxide colloidal particles (B) having a silicon dioxide/tin(IV) oxide mass ratio of 0.1-5.0, with one or more interlayer thin film layers that are formed of an oxide, complex oxide or mixture of at least one element selected from the group consisting of Si, Al, Sn, Zr, Zn, Sb, Nb, Ta and W being interposed between the titanium oxide-containing core particle (A) and the silicon dioxide-tin(IV) oxide complex oxide colloidal particles (B). The metal oxide particles have high refractive index and very small particle diameters that enable securement of high transparency, while being substantially suppressed in excitation by ultraviolet light. |
