abstract The present invention relates to a method for separating off halogens from mixtures of mass, comprising the step of contacting a mixture of matter comprising halogens of the formula X 2 where X = F, Cl, Br and/or I with a first ionic liquid of the formula A1 n+ X n n - , wherein A1 n+ is an organic cation, X - is an anion, n = 1, 2 or 3 and X has the same chemical meaning as in the halogen of the formula X 2 . The organic cation A1 + has a molar mass of ≥ 100 g/mol to ≤ 800 g/mol and ≥ 7 to ≤ 85 non-hydrogen atoms. At least step a) is carried out in a rectification column (100, 200, 300, 400).
