abstract A purpose of the present invention is to provide an industrially advantageous process for producing an ester derived from a bulky tertiary alcohol, which does not have the above-mentioned disadvantages (1)-(3). Another purpose of the present invention is to provide a process for producing an ester derived from a bulky tertiary alcohol with high yield. A process for producing an ester derived from a bulky tertiary alcohol or a bulky phenol each represented by general formula (1) [wherein R 1 , R 2 and R 3 may be the same as or different from one another and independently represent a saturated or unsaturated C 1-20 hydrocarbon group or the like], comprising reacting the bulky tertiary alcohol or the bulky phenol with metal strontium and an alkyl halide to produce a compound and then reacting the compound with an acid halide and/or an acid anhydride.
